THE CARING CUPBOARD

Although The Caring Cupboard had been operating as a PACC ministry, its blossoming success has made it possible to become its own independent 501(c)(3) entity, starting in 2018.  It continues to minister to families in the Palmyra area, currently serving about 150 families per week, aiding about 1,600 individuals. You can visit their website at www.caringcupboard.org or click on the link below.

Message from David Fitzkee

Hello!
To all the amazing volunteers of The Caring Cupboard:

As we roll into summer, I want to thank each and every one of you for your support of this organization over the years. It is always amazing to see everyone come together to support the communities we serve. I also wanted to take a minute to share a few updates with and asks of you.

For those of you that utilize social media, please make sure you follow us on Facebook and Instagram. We are working on ramping up our social media presence and even if you are not actively sharing our posts (which I encourage you to do) your connection to the pantry by following us helps us reach more people.

Additionally, we will be looking for some volunteers to participate in “Why I Volunteer” video clips to be shared on social media and our website. Please let a staff member know if you would be willing to show your support in this way and we will work on scheduling.

As the needs of the organization grows, we also need to expand some of our programs and schedules to handle the additional capacity.  As a result, we need volunteers to help with that growth.

Summer Lunch – Through the end of August, we need additional help during distribution (approx. 2 people) as well as some help with packing parties each Wednesday and the associated prep/stocking of the additional product.

Drivers – We need licensed drivers that are comfortable driving our vans on food rescue missions in the area. Most of these needs are in the morning each day, but we do have some additional runs on afternoons/evening/weekends that might fit better in some schedules.

Cleaning/Stocking – We are considering an expansion/adjustment of our shifts to allow for cleaning and re-stocking after the pantry closes to help get us ready for the next day. Likely an hour or 2 at most.

Food Delivery – We have several neighbors with transportation challenges and, as we are able, we provide a food delivery service to help them through. This schedule could be flexible but, ideally, we would be looking for 2 volunteers (driver & helper) to ride together and make a few deliveries each week.

Special Events – On the 2nd Tuesday of the month we do a food recovery from local apartment buildings and could use 2 volunteers (driver & helper) to handle that run (2 hours total).  Also, on the first Thursday of the month (late afternoon/early evening) we support a Military Share program and deliver to approx. 15 veterans. We are looking for a helper(s) to ride along on the delivery route to help with this task.

Please visit Volgistics to signup for these opportunities or reach out to Allison or I for more information or to discuss the special events.

Also, please invite your friends and neighbors to visit https://www.caringcupboard.org/volunteer to signup as a new volunteer to share in the fun!!!

I would also like to formally welcome Caitlin Lockard to our team. I am sure several of you have noticed her bouncing around the pantry. Caitlin is our new Director of Community Impact and will help us continue to be a leading food pantry. She has a background in nutrition education and a passion for the charitable food network. Please give her a warm welcome!

Lastly, I wanted to share an update on the new building as I know how important and truly significant that will be for us all. For the last several months we have been struggling to get some movement on a bit of “red tape” that had temporarily stalled the project. I am pleased to share that it appears we are finally clearing the way for us to move forward. I am optimistically hopeful that I will have some significant updates to share with you in the very near future.

It is a true honor to be a part of this organization. Thank you all for everything you do!
